Travel: Best Things To Do in Seminyak, Bali

After languishing for days on beaches and boats on Gili Islands, Seminyak was definitely quite a different experience of Bali altogether. The tide is high along most areas of Seminyak’s coast. So apart from water activities near Nusa Dua, it really is the perfect place to just kick back with cocktails and enjoy the view with great food.

Before we get to our favourite meals there, here’s what you can look forward to at Nusa Dua Beach.

Parasailing and jetski-ing are some of the activities operators run on the beach. As you can see, the waters aren’t as clear or blue but it’s still great to enjoy the beach. Other than these, you could also kayak and have some delicious seafood by the shore.

But now I really want to share some of our best picks for food in Bali. Starting with.. Made’s Warung.

We came by this restaurant quite by accident while finding our way through the maze of streets and alleys. We stopped a local asking where we could have a good lunch and he kindly gave us directions to Made’s Warung just 5 metres from where we stood.

We ordered the Nasi Campur (mixed rice), deep fried fish in sambal, some green curry and fresh juices. The food was pretty decent although not outstanding. But the setting and ambience was great. The restaurant was spacious and very laid-back. Great for whiling the afternoon away.

Another restaurant we really enjoyed and provides a truly unique experience of dining on an actual padi field is Sardine Restaurant.

Look at the stunning view! We got to stroll among the fields watching the farmers work while waiting for our meal to be ready and I loved the flowers, quaint ornamental umbrellas and baby ducks waddling around the green trail.
The food was fresh and prepared healthily and simply so it’s great for days where you’re sick of the heavy Balinese curries and gravies and just want something light and simple. The seafood is delicious so go for the hamachi, diver scallops and sea bass.

The next hotspot that turned out absolutely delightful is the famous Hog Wild (formerly Naughty Nuri’s).
There is no pretense here. Everything is served up hearty, in large portions and barbecued right in front of you in a small kitchen outside.
Just look at that rack of ribs. Apart from having great texture that just slid off of the bone, these were juicy, full of flavour and went with a fantastic BBQ sauce on the side. A perfect balance of sweet, tangy and spicy. We also tried the beef ribs and hand-cut fries which were also delicious. But for a no-fail option, definitely try the ribs. They serve up a mammoth martini as well so it’s a great place get watered!

And finally, our dinner pick.. the beautiful Merah Putih which translates as ‘red and white’ in Bahasa, representing the nation’s cuisine.
We read so much about this place. From its gorgeous interior to its great ambience and quality local cuisine. And boy, were they spot on.
First of all, I loved the decor. It was classy, had wonderful high ceilings, and really made the meal a fantastic experience. It was running at full capacity when we went down. Probably a testament to its popularity.
Every dish we ordered from the appetisers to entrées to the mains and dessert were decently done. Definitely recommend you try this when in Bali. If you feel like a tipple, there’s a cosy adjacent bar/lounge that serves up drinks as well.

When it comes to drinking holes and great sunset views, Rock Bar Bali at the Ayana Resort and Spa is definitely a top pick.
It can get pretty crowded though so it’s best to make a reservation and come down early to get a good seat and view. We were a little late so we enjoyed the sunset on the garden instead of the actual bar which was still really beautiful. We went down to the bar for drinks later that night when the tourists had gone home.

Another hotspot teeming with visitors is the famous Potato Head Beach Club.
Frankly, I didn’t really like the place just because it was way too crowded with tourists and there was just too many people around. The manicured lawns were great, the pool offered a great view of the beach and the food and drinks weren’t bad, but somehow I prefer quieter sunsets away from the crowds.

So here we are escaping the bar and headed for our own beautiful sunset by the beach on the way to our dinner at Ku De Ta.

The sunsets in Bali are gorgeous if you know where to go so these are two no-fail options. Although personally, unless you enjoy a someone raucous bar scene (people have been drinking all day by the time the sun sets), it’s better to enjoy the view on the beach itself.

Enjoy Bali if you’re going! It’s a wonderful place to relax and eat/drink to your heart’s content.
