Brewerkz is Singapore’s first microbrewery restaurant. And while I’ve been here a few times over the years for drinks with friends, we tried the food there for the first time a couple of months ago.
Price: $$ – $$$
Since it’s most well-liked for its beers, let’s start with the brilliant concept of the Beer Sampler ($14).
This was such a fun way to explore their house beers in small 4 x 125ml glasses so you can get a taste of the selection before narrowing down your favourites. I can’t really chug mugs of beer without feeling woozy, so this was a wonderfully refreshing way to do a little beer tasting of sorts.
You can choose from their Signatures like Golden Ale, IPA, Pilsner and Oatmeal Stout and then from any of the other draft beers on tap.
Now on to the food!
I started with the recommended Soba Noodle Salad with Salmon ($28).
It came with mixed greens, soba noodles, cherry tomatoes, and grilled salmon tossed in an Asian Vinaigrette dressing. This was alright. The salmon was grilled fine and the veggies were fresh, but I didn’t really care for the dressing which was a little too oily and lacking in flavour. This would have been great with something a little more tangy, citrus or even sesame. Passable.
The Mussels were pretty decent though. These aren’t always available but do order them if you like your mussels creamy, salty and downright addictive. We couldn’t stop.
And finally, what goes better with beer than a glistening rack of ribs? Here’s their Half-Rack of Baby Back Ribs ($34).
These were glazed in BBQ sauce and served with coleslaw and your choice of side. It’s $58 for full rack if you’re hungry or dining with a bigger group. The ribs were decent. Nothing too special but overall acceptable and went well with the creamy coleslaw and crunchy caesar salad.
I’d say it’s a pretty casual, laidback place to knock back some beers and finger food for a great price but don’t expect anything exceptionally delicious if you come specially for dinner. I really recommend the Beer Sampler for the ladies and even the men who are feeling adventurous and to give all their brews a shot. It’s good fun!
