After the dizzying city lights of Paris, we were craving the sound of the sea. And so we took a flight down to Nice to begin our drive along the French Riviera. We stopped for a night at Villefranche-sur-Mer, which was located midway between Nice and Monaco.
We checked into a hotel that gave us a beautiful panoramic view of one of the most beautiful bays in the world – the Villefranche-sur-Mer Bay. And just soaking in the cool blue waters dotted with shining white yachts on the harbour had such a calming effect on the soul.
We got to explore the city in the evening and I absolutely adored the architecture. It was so liberating to just run through the streets and enjoying the sunset that bathed the old buildings in beautiful pastels.
We were contemplating driving into Monaco to spend another night but we were headed to Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Cassis which was in the other direction so we took a rain check.
But we’ll definitely be back for Monaco. There is truly something magical about Nice and cities along the Cote D’Azur coastline. It just radiated from the people and the streets. There was none of the bustle and stuffiness of the city. Everyone there was relaxed, tanned (haha) and friendly and I definitely had a great first impression of the South of France there.
But on to Cannes!
