There is little more indulgent than gourmet fried chicken, the perfect warm golden waffles, and lots of crispy bacon swimming in maple syrup.
After a 90-minute wait for a seat on a Sunday, (we settled in a nearby cafe to watch the snow fall), we were brought to our tables and couldn’t wait to start ordering.
Overall: ★★★★☆ Hearty, delicious Southern favourites at affordable prices.
Sweet Chick, named for its signature dish of chicken and waffles, is a cosy diner serving up Southern favourites and delicious comfort food with a good selection of cocktails.
Just look at those gorgeous strips of bacon. Mmm..
We went straight for their signature Chicken and Waffles.
The Belgian waffles are crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. Wonderfully marinated, the fried chicken was juicy, tender and really came together beautifully with the maple syrup. We flooded the plate and tucked into a heart attack on a plate. But trust me, it was worth every bite.
We also ordered the Shrimp and Grits topped with a perfectly poached egg.
The shrimps were huge and very succulent. And i’d never had grits before this. It tastes like mash but it’s made of corn instead, and had a much more interesting texture. In savoury, spicy red sauce and with the runny yolk coating everything in a golden glaze, I absolutely adored this dish.
The place was small, but very cosy and people came with their dates, family, and friends.
What’s not to love, really? Hearty, delicious food, nice ambience, and fast, efficient service. I’d say it’s worth the wait if you love your chicken and waffles. Otherwise, just go on a weekday for lunch. The queues are much shorter then. Enjoy!
