Baking: Easy Delicious Apple Pie

There is nothing quite as comforting as that glorious scent of cinnamon and caramelised apple wafting out of the oven. It feels like a warm hug. Mmm.. that mouthwatering filling enveloped by that golden, glistening pie crust, topped with creamy smooth vanilla bean ice-cream melting into a decadent mess. And all it takes is about an hour or so to create this beautiful dessert for teatime or a post-dinner treat.

First of all, let’s work on the pie dough.

Ingredients: (Apple Filling)

  • 6-7 Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored and sliced.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Once the pie crust is ready, let’s make the apple filling. First, peel the apples, then core and slice them into chunks.

Then, mix in the sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice. Mix well.

Pre-heat the oven to 400°F or around 200°C.

Line the baking tin with the pie dough and spoon in the apple pie filling. Then, get creative with your own favourite pie crust topping. I decided to do a simple weave pattern.

Place the pie into the oven and bake for about 60 minutes or until pie crust turns golden brown, and apple filling starts bubbling through the vents in the crust. Then remove from the oven, let cool slightly and serve with a generous scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Enjoy!
